MATCH REPORT
Runcorn Town produced a stunning second half comeback to stun Newcastle Town and ran out 7-2 winners in the last of their pre-season friendlies.
Town had a couple of early chances through James McShane, Simon Burton and Emini Adegbenro, but it was the visitors who went closest with a free kick after 16 minutes which hit the crossbar with a follow up header hitting the left hand post. It was Newcastle who went ahead after 23 minutes with their number seven Simeon running on to a ball over the top from the left back before riding Karl Kneale's challenge and slotting past Karl Wills. Simeon was at it again after 38 minutes, helping on Kyle Diskin's free kick from the left hand side to double the lead. However Town levelled three minutes with Tyson Eyo showing good footwork to advance from midfield before putting Adegbenro clear, with Town's winger turning inside the last defender before slotting past the keeper. Five minutes into the second half, Newcastle were awarded a penalty after Danny Dalton was adjudged to have committed a foul in the box, but Simeon missed a great chance to score his hat-trick with Karl Wills saving his penalty. It was Karl's sixth penalty save for Town from seven faced. The penalty was the wake up call Town needed and they pulled level after 54 minutes with Adegbenro getting clear down the left before crossing low for James McShane to slot home. On the hour Town were ahead for the first time with Tyson Eyo finding the byline on the right and crossing low for Jason Carey to score. Adegbenro's second of the game after 66 minutes made it 4-2 with the winger's attempted cross from the right touchline flying straight into the top corner, and Mini also made it five with his hat-trick with a shot from the corner of the box the flew past the keeper. He wasn't finished yet though and scoring his fourth and Town's sixth after 72 minutes followint great work by Carey who pulled the ball back from the dead ball line to the left of the goal to give Mini a tap in. Town's seventh came with 15 minutes remaining with Carey grabbing his second with a shot from the edge of the box, with the forward running onto Danny Dalton's ball over the top before unleashing the shot. In truth it could have been ten, with Dalton hitting the crossbar from a Warren Bellew corner, Eyo denied by a crucial last ditch tackle when he looked certain to score, and Bellew seeing a shot hit a defender on the line before being cleared.
