MATCH REPORT
RUNCORN TOWN 1 – 0 HALTON Tues 19 Jan 10

This 3 times postponed ‘PYKE CUP’ 1st round match produced an end to end game with plenty of goal mouth incident.
It was a typical cup game with neither team giving any space or time on the ball to each other.
The first clear scoring opportunity fell to Halton, in the 14th min, after a period of Town pressure, the visitors broke quickly, Smith creating an opening for Tyrell who hit the top of the crossbar from 8 yards.
It was a let off for Town who pressed forward only to be denied by a series of fine saves by Halton keeper Percival.
However when he could only parry a pile driver from Latham the ball fell into the path of Warren Bellew, who hammered it into the net in the 32nd min.
McShane and McEvoy were posing plenty of problems for the Halton defence who were well organised by the impressive Cannon and Iddon.

HALF TIME 1 – 0

The 2nd half picked up where the first half finished with plenty of flowing football to entertain the crowd of 63. Percival did well to block a McShane shot, then pushed out a low effort from Boyle to deny Town.
Tyrell and Smith were causing problems for the Town back four, but in fairness both keepers looked very comfortable behind their efficient defenders.
Carey, Dalton and Eyo were all introduced by Runcorn as Halton continually pressed for the equaliser, the best opportunity came when from an inswinging centre by Dunning, Danny Cummins was well positioned to head the ball off the goal line.
With Halton pushing forward, Runcorn had opportunities to seal the game but Carey, Bellow and Boyle were all unable to get the ball past Halton keeper Percival.
