MATCH REPORT
Vauxhall were much changed from the side that lost 6-0 against Town in the league at Rivacre Park three weeks ago, with Town making two changes from last week's draw against Lairds. The ankle injury picked up by Danny Cummins last week saw him replaced by Mark Toohey, with Tyson Eyo making his debut in place of Marvin Molyneux. The home side had the first opportunity of the game after just three minutes with a free kick that sailed over the bar, but after that it was all Town with some delightful football leading to several long range efforts. Warren Bellew saw a 25-yard effort go just wide of the left hand post, with home goalkeeper Jamie Holmes pulling off two great saves to deny Ste Latham from similar distance. The closest Town got was on the half hour when Toohey released Bellew down the left hand side and he advanced into the box before pulling the ball back for Eyo who struck the left hand post with a sidefooted shot. Goalkeeper Karl Wills was not called into action once in the half, and it was no suprise when Town went ahead through James McShane after 41 minutes. Emini Adegbenro released Simon Burton down the right and he got into the box and layed it off to Mini whose shot was blocked on the line. However McShane was on hand to tap in and increase his incredible scoring record to 34 goals in 41 games. Vauxhall started the second half in the same fashion that they did the first with Mini forced to clear off the line from Daley Corey's effort. Town edged their way back into it with McShane shooting just wide of the left hand post from the edge of the box. Town's second goal arrived after 55 minutes when McShane's persistance saw him hold the ball up on the edge of the box with Mini making no mistake with a fierce left foot shot from the edge of the box that found the bottom right hand corner. Vauxhall made a rare foray into Town's half after 62 minutes when Craig Cairns got into the box after a mazy run from the left, but his shot went wide of the left hand post. Substitute Tony Wynne was then released by McShane with West Cheshire League One's leading scorer seeing his shot saved by Holmes, and Latham went close with another 20-yard effort which Holmes tipped around the post. Wynne also saw a chip go wide of the post, with Town almost grabbing a third late on when McShane and Wynne combined to set up Michael Boyle who shot straight at Holmes.
