MATCH REPORT
Runcorn Town's nine game winning streak came to an end with a goalless draw in the top of the table clash against Cammell Laird Reserves, but they remain the only unbeaten West Cheshire League outfit.

Town had a couple of early chances with Emini Adegbenro getting clear on the left and seeing his cross cleared for a corner with James McShane waiting. Town also came close when a corner from the right was headed back across goal with nobody able to convert.

The home side then lost Danny Cummins with an ankle injury with the deputising left back looking likely to be out for several weeks.

In what was a tight encounter with neither side wanting to make a mistake, it was Lairds who had the better chances of the first half as they got in behind Town's defence several times.

First Lee Hammond shot wide from the edge of the box with Lairds having men to his left, then Tim Bigland should have scored as he got behind Town's defence but saw his lob from the edge of the box go wide.

Danny Edwards also beat the offside trap but shot tamely at goal then at the other end, Latham shot wide with a 25-yard drive after a good move on the left involving McShane, Ian Robinson and Simon Burton. Lairds had the last chance of the half when Bigland once again got in but he shot straight at Karl Wills under pressure from Danny Dalton.

The second half was as tight as the first with McShane twice unable to get on the end of Burton's knockdown's from Marvin Molyneux crosses. On the hour Town's Greg Byrne had to clear over his own bar from a cross on the left with Byrne himself going off with an ankle injury midway through the half.

The best chance of the game fell to the visitors with 15 minutes remaining when a shot from the edge of the box spun into the path of Edwards who rounded Wills, but substitute Mark Toohey got back to clear the shot off the line.

The last ten minutes saw Town go close with Warren Bellew seeing a shot with his weaker foot blocked and following a good move on the right involving Tony Wynne and Adegbenro, McShane saw a shot deflected wide for a corner.

Lairds' last effort was from Mike McGraa whose 25-yard effort from a half cleared corner went well wide, but Town had two great chances in stoppage time to grab all three points.

Firstly trickery in the box by Latham carved out a chance but he saw his shot go just wide of the right hand post. Then Adegbenro burst through from midfield and hit a powerful drive which Aiden Dickinson did well to stop.

Overall probably a fair result with the fear of losing perhaps dampening what promised to be a great encounter.
