MATCH REPORT
In a lively opening to the game, Alex Hutchinson went close for the visitors with Karl Wills saving well to his right and Simon Burton testing Adam Bedford with a header from Mark Toohey's cross. Danny Davies put Christleton ahead after just nine minutes as he broke clear of the defence and scored at the second attempt after Wills had saved his initial effort. However two minutes later Town were level with Warren Bellew grabbing his first for the club with a drive from 22-yards after Marvin Molyneux had played him in. Town were in threatening mood and pushing for the lead but they were almost caught out after 17 minutes when Danny Harris' made a fine run into the box only to be dispossessed by Dave Ginever's excellent challenge. A fine spell by Town then saw Tony Wynne go close after Burton had played him in and Burton and Emini Adegbenro both denied by Bedford. The deserved second goal for Town eventually arrived after 27 minutes with Wynne grabbing his first goal. An excellent ball from Danny Cummins on the left touchline left Wynne with just the keeper to beat and he did so with a little chip over him into the net. The third goal arrived on 39 minutes when Molyneux put Adegbenro clear with "Mini" rounding the keeper for his first goal for the club. Two minutes into the second half Town added their fourth with Toohey finding Bellew down the left. He advanced into the box and saw his shot saved but Mini followed up to grab his second with a tap in. In searing heat and Town having a commanding lead, it was no surprise that the game fizzled out with little happening until the last ten minutes when Mini unleashed a 25-yard effort that went straight at the keeper. Christleton were almost handed a goal after 82 minutes when Wills' clearance from the touchline went straight to Craig Harrington 25-yards out on the left touchline, with his curling effort goalbound until Greg Byrne cleared off the line. Town's fifth arrived a minute later with last season's leading goalscorer Jason Carey finishing off a great Town move for his first of this season. Karl Kneale played the ball up to Ste Latham who found Toohey on the right. He released Mini down the right who threaded it through for Carey to fire home from the edge of the box. Carey's second arrived in stoppage time when Latham's dummy put Mini clear and his cross from the right found Carey to fire in Town's sixth.
