MATCH REPORT
The first ten minutes saw Castrol start the brighter with last ditch tackles from Greg Byrne and Danny Dalton keeping the home side out on a couple of occassions. Castrol should have took the lead after 20 minutes when a good move down the left saw the ball crossed for Danny Dobbins who shot wide. Town's first real chance came after 23 minutes when Jason Carey got clear of the defence and crossed for Tony Wynne, but Nick Chambers got back to head the ball behind for the corner. The best chances of the half came in the closing minutes of it as the game suddenly sprung to life. After 43 minutes a free kick from Marvin Molyneux was headed across goal by Carey, with the stretching Latham unable to get on the end of it. Then Emini Adegbenro did well to get free inside the box and pull the ball back for Molyneux who shot over the bar. Moving into stoppage time Castrol broke down the right with Dobbins crossing for Carl Frost whose effort was turned around the post by Karl Wills. At the other end Carey chased down an attempted backpass and attempted to lob the keeper with his effort hitting the keeper. The second half started with Adegbenro getting clear of the defence with just the keeper to beat but having reached the area, opted to square to the ball instead of shooting. Castrol went ahead on the hour mark when Greg Byrne was dispossessed in the box and Ryan Nicholl making no mistake with a low shot into the far corner. Carey then got clear of the Castrol defence and saw his shot from the edge of the box tipped over the bar. Town changed things around with manager Simon Burton replacing Wynne and it had an immediate effect with an equaliser coming with ten minutes to go. Carey played the ball into Burton whose shot was half cleared to Ste Latham 25-yards out, and his half volley flew past reserve keeper Sam McCleod. Aarron Brown then entered the action from the bench with five minutes remaining as Town pressed for the winner, and he had two good opportunities from Burton passes both of which went wide. Heading into stoppage time and Town lay siege to the home sides' goal with Warren Bellew and Jason Carey both seeing shots tipped over the bar by McLeod. However Town were unable to find another goal with the home side holding on for the point. This match report represents the views of the author and not particularly that of Runcorn Town FC. |
