MATCH REPORT
Last seasons champions West Kirby visited Runcorn on the opening day of the 2009/10 season, with both sides playing out an exciting if tense league opener
Both defences dominated the game with the league champions moving the ball quickly and Runcorn struggling to put them under any sustained pressure. The game attracted a large crowd but the blustery conditions prevented a football spectacle. Town goalkeeper Karl Wills did well to hold on to a powerful header from a West Kirby corner kick. Runcorn came more into the game in a the second half, their best chance falling to Steve Latham who blasted the ball across the goal but the wrong side of the upright. The introduction of Tony Wynne and Simon Burton pepped up the home attack in the second half, and Burton had the ball in the net in the 63rd minute but was adjudged offside. Overall the draw was a fair result and both sides seemed satisfied with a share of the points. This match report represents the views of the author and not particularly that of Runcorn Town FC. |
