TOWN CLOSE IN, RESERVES HIT DOUBLE FIGURES Runcorn Town moved within two points of Upton A.A. at the top of West Cheshire League One after a 4-2 victory over New Brighton at Pavilions, however the result of the day lies with the reserves who scored ten without reply in the Guardian Cup at Avon Athletic.
James McShane was the hat-trick hero for the first team after Will Dolan had opened the scoring in the fourth minute from the penalty spot. New Brighton equalised in the 27th minute but two late in the half from McShane put Town in control. Robbie Moore's own goal just before half time kept the visitors in it but McShane's third in the 57th minute effectively wrapped up the game, and despite having two other "goals" ruled out, Town comfortably saw out the rest of the game to claim all three points. Meanwhile in Widnes, five goals in each half gave Town an easy run out in the Guardian Cup with returning striker Paul Hart grabbing four. Last season's club leading scorer also set up a couple of others with Dave Jolley grabbing two, and Pete Murphy, Craig Beech, and Mark Tummin also on the scoresheet. The other goal was by Avon's Chris Nicolls who put into his own net. Click here for New Brighton match report. Click here for Avon Athletic match report.
