Runcorn Town suffered their first Premier Division defeat in the North West Counties League after a late, late penalty from Winsford United handed them all three points at the Barnton Stadium.
The home side took the lead with their first attack of note in the 22nd minute with Dean McGregor nudging the ball past Karl Wills following a long ball from the left.
Town, who named an unchanged eleven from Saturday's opener against Padiham, levelled after 41 minutes with James McShane scoring his second of the season as he raced clear of the defence from Darren Kinsey's through ball.
Town enjoyed much of the possession in the second half but just as it looked like both sides were settling for a point, the referee awarded the home side a penalty with two minutes remaining which was severly harsh on Town.
McGregor's fierce shot from the edge of the box flew at Ste Latham with the referee ruling he had handled. How he was meant to get his arm out of the way is anybody's guess. Lee Jones despatched the penalty to give the home side victory.
Full report to follow on Wednesday.
