TOWN BEAT NWCL NEWCOMERS
Runcorn Town kept up their impressive pre-season campaign with a 3-0 victory over NWCL newcomers Northwich Villa at Pavilions.

It was a thoroughly good workout for the squad, and despite having the majority of the chances in the first half, the teams went in level at the break. This was in no small part due to Villa's keeper who pulled off some fantastic saves, James McShane in particular being thwarted on at least three occasions.

The opening goal came ten minutes into the second half with John Elias opening the scoring with a perfect free kick that went just inside the post.

Midway through the half Graeme Mitchell doubled the lead with the goal of the game. With seemingly nowhere to go on the edge of the box, Mitchell hit the ball over his head with the ball looping over the keeper and into the top corner.

Mitchell also made the game safe late in the game, Mark Toohey advancing from his defensive position towards the goalline before pulling the ball back for Mitchell to drill home.
