GIANTKILLING ENSURES QUARTER FINAL DATE
Runcorn Town produced their fourth "giantkilling" act of the season in the Vodkat League Challenge Cup with a superb second half performance ensuring a 4-0 victory over Atherton LR and a date at Wigan Robin Park in the Quarter Finals.

The first half was a scrappy affair with both teams largely cancelling each other out, however the second half was pretty much one way traffic once Town had took the lead a minute before the hour mark.

Scott Burton's did well in retaining possession in midfield before despatching a perfectly timed lob over the defence which put James McShane clear of the defence. Atherton's keeper opted to stay on his line, with McShane advancing into the box before finding the corner.

Six minutes later it was 2-0, Ste Latham getting a huge slice of luck from an attempted clearance on the edge of the box with the ball sitting up perfectly for him to find the net. It could have been more but for Atherton's keeper who pulled of a string of excellent saves, no more so than from Jason Carey and Warren Bellew who both just had him to beat.

With four minutes to go it was all over with Bellew's free kick from the left causing havoc in defence with the ball falling for Danny Dalton to smash home the third. And in injury time it was four when Carey was clearly blocked in the box with the referee pointing to the spot, McShane making no mistake to score his 39th goal of the season.
