TOWN TOP LEAGUE AFTER WIN
Runcorn Town returned to the top of Vodkat League Division after completing a league double over Atherton Collieries, with Ste Latham's stunning effort sealing a 1-0 victory.

Tony Wynne went close for Town inside the opening ten minutes with his lob from the edge of the box going wide of the right hand post, with Jason Carey seeing a header go wide of the opposite upright after 18 minutes.

Collieries looked dangerous on the break but Town's defence was magnificent, limiting their hosts to long range efforts that never troubled Karl Wills.

The goal that separated the two sides arrived in the 28th minute with Latham scoring a goal-of-the-season contender. He advanced unopposed from his right back berth before unleashing an unstoppable effort from 30-yards that flew into the net.

The second half was an enthralling contest with both sides going at each other at a fast pace but little goalscoring chances created for either side. The closest Town came was in the 65th minute when a Carey cross from the right was not cleared by Colls defence with James McShane's overhead kick flying just over the bar.
