TOWN BOOK QUARTER FINAL SPOT Runcorn Town made it six wins in succession with a 5-1 victory at Cheadle Town that put them in the Quarter Finals of the Vodkat League Division One Trophy.Town named a much changed lineup with just five survivors from the starting eleven which faced Ashton on Saturday. Robbie Gorry and Ryan Malone first made their first Vodkat League starts having stepped up from the Reserves, with Mike Chesters doing likewise with a second half appearance from the bench. The opening goal took just nine minutes to arrive with Malone feeding James McShane down the right. His cross found Simon Burton at the back post with Town's Player Manager laying it off to Gorry to score his first senior goal for the club from close range. Town should have already been 1-0 up by that point with Burton getting behind Cheadle's defence but hitting the post with his shot. Cheadle were level after 22 minutes with Ben Brooks capitalising on some hesitant defending as he nipped in to put the ball into an empty net, but James McShane restored the lead less than 60 seconds later after Darren Kinsey played him in - the goal being Town's 100th of the season. After scoring a team landmark goal, McShane grabbed a landmark of his own after 38 minutes as he registered his 30th goal of the season to put Town 3-1 up. Warren Bellew delivered a deep cross from the left which Gorry was unable to convert, with McShane making no mistake with the follow up. Bellew should have made it four minutes later when he jinxed his way through the defence, but with just the keeper to beat he lifted his effort over the bar. Cheadle almost reduced the defecit two minutes into the second half with a shot from just outside the box from Paul McCormack that rebounded off the woodwork, but Town went 4-1 up six minutes later with Burton heading a free kick goalwards which Andy Morgan converted, and four minutes later McShane made it five by lobbing the keeper after Burton played him through for his second hat-trick in two games. Bellew went close again with a 25-yard effort that the home keeper did well to save, whilst at the other end Karl Wills showed why he is Vodkat Goalkeeper of the Month with a fantastic save from McCormack - Gordon Banks eat your heart out! The game ended on a sour note for Town with Morgan dismissed for two yellow cards, with Bellew joining him for an early shower in stoppage time for collecting his second yellow of the game.
