Runcorn Town First Team take centre stage this weekend as they entertain Premier League outfit Congleton Town in the Second Round of the Vodkat League Challenge Cup at Pavilions.
The tie represents Town's first home cup tie of the season and should prove a great game with both sides doing well in the respective divisions.
Town overcame AFC Liverpool in the last round with two goals from James McShane helping us to a 2-1 away victory in early October, whilst Congleton received a bye due to their higher league status.
Congleton are currently in fourth place in the Premier Division, six points behind leaders New Mills, and last Saturday won 1-0 against Silsden with leading scorer Matty Haddrell netting the only goal. This extended their unbeaten run to four games with a 2-2 home win against Squires Gate the Saturday previous.
Prior to that they also had two away victories, the most recent being a 1-0 win at Runcorn Linnets whilst on 16th October they left it very very late to win 2-1 at Ashton Athletic, with goals in the 94th and 96th minutes sealing a 2-1 win.
Kick off at Pavilions is 3.00pm, and supporters are reminded that season tickets and our accompanied under 16's offer are not eligible for this tie as it is a cup match. Admission is £2.00 Adults and £1.00 concessions.
Town Reserves have no match this weekend with their away clash against Grappenhall off due to the unavailability of the home sides pitch.
Earlier in the morning, the Under 12's and the Youth team play against Albright Juniors and Ellesmere Port JFC respectively.
The Under 12's start off the day with a home tie against the side who have a 100% record having won all eight games this season. Town lie fourth with two games in hand and will be looking to build on the superb performances of the last few weeks, and go into the game on the back of a 7-2 win against St Michaels last weekend.
Kick off at Haddocks Wood in the Halton & District League is 10.30am.
The Youth team match should be a close affair with Port lying just one place and one point above Town in the West Cheshire League table.
They will also go into the game in confident mood having taken the unbeaten record off league leaders Maghull Youth last week in a 3-2 win with a performance which showed that they can beat any team in the league if they put their minds to it.
Kick off at Ellesmere Port is 11.00am.
