Runcorn Town suffered their first away defeat in the Vodkat League as they went down to a comprehensive 4-0 defeat at AFC Blackpool.
It was a bad day at the office for Town who put in their worst performance of the season with their usual free flowing style of football strangely absent.
Blackpool took the lead after 22 minutes from the penalty spot after Danny Salt was harshly judged to have brought down Niall Cummins in the box, with leading scorer Ben Waddington finding the corner from the spot.
Five minutes later it was 2-0 when a corner from the left evaded everyone with Gaz Fawcett heading home unmarked from inside the box.
Town tried to come back into the game with Emini Adegbenro running onto Ste Latham's ball over the top after 34 minutes but seeing his shot rebound off the post. They also hit the post after 48 minutes when James McShane's cross hit a defender then the post before being cleared.
The talking point of the match came in the 67th minute when a 22-man plus brawl occurred following an alleged racial attack by a member of Blackpool's bench on Kyle Hamid. Kyle plus a member of the opposition was dismissed from the field with the incident leaving a sour taste in the mouth for the rest of the afternoon and beyond.
Despite lots of possession, Town could not muster many clear cut opportunities, with Blackpool making the game safe after 85 minutes when Niall Cummings beat the offside line and advanced goalwards before firing low past Karl Wills into the corner.
In stoppage time Blackpool got their fourth with the move of the match. Cummings found Waddington on the left and continued his run to the back post where he converted Waddington's cross from close range.
Town have no complaints about the result on a day that they ultimately failed to turn up, but the 67th minute incident is one that we hope will not be repeated for as long as we continue playing football.
