AND FIRST TEAM PROGRESS IN VASE

Runcorn Town became the first Vodkat League side through to the Second Round of the FA Carlsberg Vase after registering another giant killing act with a 3-2 victory over Atherton LR.

Town fell behind after just eight minutes with LR scoring a free header from a right wing corner. However six minutes later it was 1-1 with a perfect counter attack from an LR corner ending with Marvin Molyneux finding the corner with a delightful shot.

Town went ahead after 33 minutes for the first time with James McShane slotting past the keeper after breaking through, despite looking offside when making his run.

Atherton were back level after 61 against the run of play when a shot from the right hit the post and rebounded across the line before being poked in.

Town went back ahead after 67 minutes with Danny Dalton heading in a Kyle Hamid corner from the left. Despite the referee adding on seven minutes at the end of a game where there were few stoppages, Town held on for a famous win.
