Two early goals decided this game, the visitors getting the benefit of two dubious offside decisions. Ryan Lee put Richmond ahead in the ninth minute with Chris Gardner increasing the lead in the 14th minute, with Town's back four all static appealing for offside on both occasions.
Craig Beech should have put Town ahead in the 3rd minute but blasted the ball wide with just the keeper to beat. The visitors keeper competantly dealt with several shots but needed his fullback to clear John Coady's header off the goal line.
Richmond got the important third goal via the impressive Gardner on the hour. John Dover then pulled a goal back in 68th minute by scoring at the near post following a corner, but the home side's joy was short lived when Gardner completed his hat trick in the 83rd minute to seal victory.
