Runcorn Town's unbeaten pre-season campaign came to an end on Saturday with a 3-1 loss at Flint Town United.
Town took the lead with the first meaningful attack of the game after 15 minutes with Jason Carey racing onto a through ball and chipping the onrushing keeper from the edge of the box.
Flint levelled five minute later when their number 9 raced onto a ball that cut through the heart of Town's defence with the forward getting to the ball fractionally ahead of Dave Ginever to poke it past Wills.
On a surface not constructive to Town's football, the visitors struggled but could have gone ahead minutes into the second half with Jon McEvoy breaking free but seeing him attempted lob saved by the keeper.
It was Flint who took the lead on the hour with a header six yards out from a corner kick, and they had several chances to increase the lead after that. Flint's third came with 13 minutes left with Town once more cut apart through the centre, with their number 16 racing clear of the defence before shooting first time past Wills.
Town had a couple of chances to pull one back with Emini Adegbenro's dangerous cross from the right turned behind for a corner, and Warren Bellew breaking clear but shooting straight at the keeper. However Flint were worthy winners with Town not at the races on the day.
