YOUTHFUL TOWN BEAT FAIRFIELD
A youthful looking Runcorn Town Reserves gave a hint that a good season could be in store as they beat Fairfield Athletic 2-1.

In hot conditions at Pavilions, Craig Beech put Town ahead midway through the first half as he raced onto Tom Mather's excellent ball from the back and beat the keeper to the ball to slot into the corner of the net.

Beech almost added to the score minutes later but shot wide following a poor backpass with Town running Fairfield ragged with good passing movements that were ideal given the weather.

Goalkeeper Jake Garner kept Town in front with some good saves including an excellent one down to his left that he somehow tipped onto the post before collecting the rebound. Town doubled the lead midway through the second half with Pete Murphy's ball sending Anton Ellison through, with the striker finding the net with a cool finish.

Kyle Mayers had the ball in the net late on but the goal was ruled out for a teammate being offside in the build up. Fairfield's goal came in the final minute through Richie Campbell, with full time being called immediately after it.
