TOWN RESERVES END WITH A WIN
Runcorn Town Reserves brought the 2010/11 season to a close with a 4-0 victory over Mersey Royal at Pavilions.

Aarron Stafford gave Town the perfect start by heading the opening goal after two minutes of the game from Mike Chesters corner.

With Town dominant, Chesters and Rob Gorry both had chances to score before they were awarded a penalty after 23 minutes following a handball from a Paul Illidge shot. Stafford took the penalty and converted for his 39th goal of the season.

He should really have made it 40 a few minutes later when he beat the offside trap before lobbing the keeper with the ball dropping just to the left hand side of the post.

The second half was again pretty much all Town, with two players opening their goalscoring accounts for the club. One, Rob Colquitt, should have scored a few minutes before he did when he shot over an empty net following good work by Dave Jolley. His goal, on 53 minutes, was well taken as he showed Stafford how to chip the keeper.

The other player to open his account was Karl Kneale, whose "cheeky" goal came after 71 minutes from a free kick. Town were awarded the kick following a foul 20-yards from goal, with Kneale strolling up from defence and hitting the ball first time into the bottom left corner before strolling back to his defensive position. Words dont do it justice!

Controversially the referee only played 37 minutes of the second half after Mersey Royal themselves decided that they had had enough - much to the horror of Mr Stafford as he had not scored in that half.

The win means Town finish the season in fourth place, four points behind winners Hale and a point behind Prescot Cables Reserves and Richmond Raith Rovers who finished in second and third respectively.
