Runcorn Town's lead at the top of West Cheshire League one was cut to four points after being held to a 2-2 draw at home by Newton.
The kick off was put fifteen minutes after the late arrival of the away team, but it seemed to have no effect with Newton ahead after just three minutes. Kevin Duncalf timed his run to perfection to get clear of Town's defence and fired a low shot past Richie Mottram.
Town's equaliser came after ten minutes when Jason Carey played in Tony Wynne who was felled in the box by Newton's keeper. The referee pointed to the spot with Warren Bellew finding the corner to equalise.
Newton regained the lead after 62 minutes with Kevin Wright finding the corner of the net after Duncalf had weaved his way to the line and pulled the ball back.
However Town responded once more with Carey advancing down the left hand side and crossing for Danny Cummins whose diving header flew into the top corner of the net.
Town had several chances to take the lead but could not convert any of them with Newton holding on for a point.
