WEST CHESHIRE ROUND UP - UPDATED AGAIN With the season drawing to a close and Town's two teams both involved at the top of their respective leagues, each Monday from now until the end of the season we shall be looking back at the weekend games and previewing forthcoming matches for the week.Town's 5-1 win over Maghull moved them eight points clear at the top of West Cheshire One. Cammell Laird Reserves (2nd) did not play and West Kirby (4th) were in Pyke Cup action, allowing Heswall to move up to third after a 3-0 win over Halton with goals from Nathan Mapletoft, Matty Houghton and Carl Clampitt. Newton are sixth at the moment with seven games in hand on Town, and they can mathematically go level if they win all seven. They were in Pyke Cup action at the weekend. Monday saw Newton v Cammell Laird called off due to a waterlogged pitch, with Helsby (Connor Taylor, Lee Guirado) going down 3-2 at Castrol Social for whom Peter Boyle, Jordan Brierley (pen) and Sean Keevey were on target. Cammell Laird also saw a game called off on Wednesday at home to Heswall with Town's game against Upton was also called off. Newton did manage to play though but probably wish they didnt as they lost 4-0 at West Kirby with Kieran Fleetwood grabbing two, Lee Gibson scoring another penalty and Paul Hughes also on target. West Kirby are now second, seven points behind Town. In Wednesday's other game Willaston beat Helsby in a 4-3 thriller. Jimmy Hilditch, James Jaggard, Tom Coan and Richie Foulkes scored for Willaston, with Adam Newbolt (2) and Connor Taylor on target for Helsby. In Division Three Town Reserves' 4-0 win at Blacon moved them six points clear of third place Ashville Reserves who were held 1-1 at Richmond Raith Rovers. Ashville have played the same number of games as Town. Hale continue to lead the way with a 3-1 win at Ellesmere Port Reserves to remain three points clear with two games in hand over Town. Fourth placed Christleton Reserves did not play, and they are eight points behind with one game in hand. Prescot Cables Reserves are nine points behind Town Reserves in fifth, but do have three games in hand and should overtake Town if they win all three with their goal difference six below Town's at present. Monday night saw Richmond Raith Rovers beat Hale 4-2, leaving Hale with just one game in hand over Town. On Wednesday Ashville Reserves entertain Capenhurst Villa Reserves (7.30pm) whilst Prescot play one of their games in hand at home to Mossley Hill Athletic (6.00pm), with Athletic winning 6-0 at the weekend against Mersey Royal.
