Reigning West Cheshire League champions West Kirby halted Runcorn Town's march towards the championship with a 4-2 victory in today's league match.
Town could count themselves unlucky to go in at the break a goal behind after dominating much of the first half, with James McShane and Ste Latham both forcing fine saves from the home goalkeeper.
As it was West Kirby seized the initiative with a 33rd minute opener when Mike Burke put West Kirby ahead by controlling a cross from the right and controlling it before finding the top right hand corner.
Town equalised two minutes into the second half through James McShane as he found himself unmarked in the box to head Warren Bellew's cross into the net.
However West Kirby took control and ahead a third on the hour through Burke's header, with West Kirby's forward completing his hat-trick after 78 minutes when after an error by Richie Mottram.
Aarron Stafford pulled one back for Town in the 89th minute with a deft touch from Tyson Eyo's free kick from the left hand side, with Lee Gibson making it 4-2 from the spot in stoppage time following a foul by Marvin Molyneux.
