Runcorn Town moved six points clear at the top of West Cheshire League One after a 2-1 win over Marine Reserves at Pavilions.
Town took the lead after just four minutes through Jon McEvoy, with the striker scoring via both posts from Emini Adegbenro's cross.
Marine hit back with Mike Brown's free kick from the right touchline eluding everyone and creeping into the corner of the net.
Town had chances to restore the lead but were denied by some great goalkeeping by Marine's Dean Pye and the woodwork, with the post and bar hit seven times in total.
The winning goal finally came after 80 minutes with James McShane heading in Warren Bellew's cross.
Heswall's loss at Maghull means Town are now six points clear at the top, with Town having the chance to move nine points clear on Wednesday when Castrol Social are the visitors.
