RESERVES DEFEATED AT WERBURGHS
Runcorn Town Reserves lost their second game in three days as they were beaten by the odd goal in three at St Werburghs in Chester.

Werburghs went ahead early on through Liam Gough's goal after he brought down Lee Reid's free kick, took on Paul Glynn and fired the ball past Carl Williams.

Town had numerous chances to pull level but didn't do so until the 42nd minute with a good passing move finished off by Dave Jolley. Paul Illidge played in Mike Chesters who found Glynn on the left and his cross was brought down by Jolley before blasting the ball past Bostock for his fifth of the season.

However seconds before the end of the half Werburgh's were ahead again when a free kick from Winterburn was headed in by Reid.

The second half again saw Town create a host of chances against a side who were content to put 10 men behind the ball, but the tactic worked for the home team after 57 minutes when they took a 3-1 lead with textbook route one football.

A clearance from the keeper found Kelly in Town's half, with the forward controlling the ball and firing a 25-yard thunderbolt past Williams.

Town pressed forward but could not find the net until nine minutes from time when Jolley scored his sixth in six games with with a deft header from Ricky Thompson's cross that found the bottom corner.

An equaliser seemed certain but Werburgh's held on for the win, with Jolley coming the closest with a shot from inside the box that rattled the crossbar before rebounding clear.
