DISAPPOINTING LEAGUE OPENER FOR RESERVES
Runcorn Town Reserves were beaten in their opening game of the season with Richmond Raith Rovers running out deserving winners.

With the late swicth of the game to a Friday evening, Town had plenty of players missing, and this unfamiliarity was shown after just eight minutes when Richmond took the lead. From a cross on the righ John Garner hit a superb volley from 10 yards that gave Town keeper Carl Williams no chance of saving.

A clever header by Michael Sullivan increased the visitors lead in the 23rd minute following another cross from the right, with Richmond threatening to run away with it.

Town settled and came into the game as half time approached with Alan Bond pulling a goal back in the 44th minute. Bond struck home a ball that came back off the underside of the crossbar.

The second half saw Town chasing an equaliser but they rarely troubled the visitors keeper. And in the 66th minute a long ball was played down the left which was crossed for Dominic Gilchrist to slide the ball under the body of the advancing Williams.
