Runcorn Town signed off their successful Division Two championship winning season with a narrow 4-3 win over Chester Nomads at Boughton Cricket Club.
The game saw Town concede three for the first time since they last lost a league game on 7th October at West Kirby Reserves, with the first half in particular perhaps their poorest of the season.
Nomads went ahead within three minutes, with Tom Sutcliffe scoring from close after a cross from the right was only half cleared. Town struggled, with defender Dan Riley 8' 3" defender Dan Riley first to up everything.
Town's equaliser came with the first real shot in first half stoppage time. Mark Horrigan's free kick from the left was flicked on by Mark Ingham, with Connor Taylor scoring from close range.
The second half was much better, with Town ahead on the hour through Robbie Moore whose volley from a poor clearance from 20 yards found the bottom corner. Not content with been outdone by his defensive partner, Mike Duffy went forward in the 72nd minute and got the goal he has craved since November with a bullet header from D.Moore's corner.
Robbie Moore then set Dave Dempsey up to score Town's 92nd league goal of the season from the edge of the box with an low shot inside the post, and it appeared to be a comfortable night with just 13 minutes remaining. Nomads never gave up and just two minutes later got a chance with the referee awarding a penalty.
Dave Parkinson was determined though and kept Eden Fenlon at bay with a full length dive to the right. However Nomads had the scent and pulled one back with seven remaining when Riley beat Parkinson at the near post.
It got worse for Town with two minutes remaining with Andy Mitchell volleying past Parkinson after Duffy slipped in the box, but Town managed to hold on for their 10th successive league win and stretch the unbeaten run to 20 games.
