The club have been hit with the devastating news that Runcorn Town Reserves have been thrown out of the West Cheshire Shield, therefore being denied the opportunity to defend the trophy won only last season. The decision follows an appearance at the West Cheshire League Rules Infringement Committee on Monday night at Lairds Social Club, when the League Registrations Secretary reported that Runcorn Town Reserves ( amongst others ) were found to have played ineligible players in their 1st Round tie away at Ashville Reserves.
The tie was played on October 4th, and Town had TWO players who played that had registered on September 26th - thus satisfying the ruling that you must be registered for 7 days prior to participating in any tie up to the semi-final. However, the rule goes on to state that only players eligible on the conference date set for the tie are eligible for any rearranged match should the first match be unplayed - and the tie had been postponed on 6th September due to inclement weather, thus making the two players in question ineligible ! No less than four clubs were up in front of the Committee on Monday night under the same charge, resulting in FC Pensby, New Brighton and Southport Trinity Reserves also being struck from the Competition - sack the Club Secretaries, they're obviously not putting enough effort into such a well paid job !!
Ashville Reserves have now been reinstated in Town Reserves place, and will now face Capenhurst Villa Reserves away on November 22nd, so there will be a change to the Reserve Team advertised fixture for that date. This will be notified as soon as known.
