BLACON 0 - 7 RUNCORN TOWN
Jason Carey opened the scoring with a powerful header from Boyles corner in the 21st min.. Runcorn keeper Karl Wills was called into action, deflecting an awkward bounce following a shot by Clarke. Runcorn were awarded a penalty in the 26th min when John McEvoy was brought down, McEvoy duly slammed the ball home from the spot. Carey made it 3 in the 29th min, racing clear to beat the keeper from the edge of the area, he was unlucky a minute later when his curling effort came back off the crossbar.
McEvoy got his 2nd and Runcorn's 4th in the 37th min when he beat the keeper from 15 yards, then Mike Boyle rolled in number 5 just before half time. Manager Nick Armitage was furious with his players after seeing Robinson, Boyle and McEvoy all waste simple chances to add to the score.
Half Time Blacon 0 - 5 Runcorn Town
The second half saw the introduction of Mark Toohey on the right and he made an immediate impression with a long range shot that struck the crossbar. Carey got his hat trick and Runcorn's 6th goal on the hour with another powerful header from Toohey's corner then unselfish play by McEvoy set up Carey's 4th to complete the scoring with a low shot into the bottom corner. Glynn and Cumpper were introduced and the Blacon keeper produced a fine save to deny Glynn. Cumpper then hit a 35yd screamer that was deflected just over the angle. Runcorn were looking to increase their lead and McEvoy blasted the ball inches wide of the upright when less power may have produced a goal.
