Runcorn Town Reserves maintained their three point lead over Marshalls at the top of West Cheshire League Three after a 2-0 victory at Capenhurst Villa Reserves.
Town gave debuts to goalkeeper Matty Wilson and defender David Graven, with Graven almost making it a dream debut after three minutes when he headed Rob Darlington’s against the post with the home keeper well beaten.
In a dominant first half performance, Town took the lead in the 40th minute when a pass from Martin Daly put Anto Ellison in the clear and he calmly put the ball past the onrushing keeper to open the scoring.
Capenhurst changed their formation at the start of the second half and started to press higher up the field. This pressure gave them a couple of half chances but they never forced Wilson to make a save at all.
Town soaked up the pressure with the back four of Robbie Davis, David Graven, David Ginever & Paul Illidge standing firm to keep the clean sheet. On 70 minutes Dave Jolley advanced down the right and after exchanging passes with Rob Darlington, his cross found Peter Murphy who turned the centre half and picked his spot to seal the 2-0 win.
As the game wore down manager Rod Looker introduced a couple of pairs of fresh legs in Alan Bond and Ben Butler, who also made his club debut.
Town kept possession comfortably for last twenty minutes to keep their top spot and unbeaten record.
