Runcorn Town continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-1 victory at neighbours Halton in what was the toughest encounter of the season so far.
Town got the perfect start after seven minutes with Simon Burton taking Kyle Hamid's throw from the right hand side on his chest in the box before turning and seeing his shot deflected past Adam Judge in the Halton goal.
John McEvoy should have added a second after 15 minutes but shot over from three yards out from Danny Dalton's cross, but the second goal duly arrived on 19 minutes when Greg Byrne headed in Hamid's corner to double the lead.
Halton had an opportunity to strike back within three minutes with Dean Ramanouski's shot well saved by Karl Wills, and the unmarked Darryl Evans heading the resultant corner wide.
Joe Davies then set up Mike Boyle who shot just wide of the left hand post, with Halton halving the arrears on 38 minutes when McDonald ran onto a ball down the left and scored past the onrushing Wills from 25-yards.
Davies saw a shot with the outside of his foot fly wide of the post, with McDonald wasting a great chance to level the scores just before half time when he ran onto a ball over the top and shot well over from the edge of the box.
The second half was a much tighter affair with Byrne unlucky to see a header cleared off the line in what would have been a carbon copy of his goal. Mike Boyle gave Town breathing space by making it 3-1 after 63 minutes when Halton failed to clear Hamid's corner, with Danny Dalton's follow up shot blocked and Boyle turning it in from close range.
