Runcorn Town Reserves moved three points clear at the top of West Cheshire League Three after a 3-2 victory over Ellesmere Port Reserves. However the scoreline does not reflect the dominance Town had with Town struggling to convert numerous chances to increase the scoreline.
Town went ahead in the 10th minute with Peter Murphy heading Alan Bond's cross into the net via the underside of the bar. minutes later Town doubled their advantage when Danny Cummins headed Paul Illidge's cross from the left into the bottom right hand corner. Illidge himself was then unlucky with a cross cum shot from the left which hit one post, went along the line, and off the other post.
Port's first shot on target after minutes pulled a goal back, with full back 's shot from almost 30-yards finding the bottom left hand corner. And just after the hour, Port found an equaliser with bundling his way through the defence and slotting past James Orme.
Town's winner came by way of an inspired subsitution by manager Rod Looker, who threw on Ged Bushell with Town having a free kick on the left. Bushell's first touch was to turn in Robbie Darlington's free kick to restore Town's lead.
Town could have increased the lead with Murphy firing over from just three yards out from a left hand corner, and Dave Jolley failing to get on the end of Anto Ellison's cross from the left, but Town held firm to maintain their 100% start.
