
Runcorn Town almost let slip a three goal lead in their opening day fixture against Ellesmere Port, but held out to record their first win with a 3-2 victory.
Defender Danny Dalton opened the scoring for Town with a header from Kyle Hamid's corner after just ten minutes, with Clint Burton doubling the lead after 25 minutes with a close range shot after Hamid's shot from the edge of the box was blocked.
Town were awarded a penalty five minutes before half time after a foul in the box on Simon Burton, with Hamid firing the penalty low into the bottom left hand corner.
The second half saw Town start slow with Port pulling one back after 49 minutes through Peter McNulty who slotted home from six-yards after a low cross from the right hand side.
Port's second came after 70 minutes with a throw in from the right which was flicked on inside the box with McNulty putting it away for his second.
Town had few chances in the second half but could have had a fourth with John McEvoy striking a post with three minutes to play, but they held out for the win.
