TOWN HELD AT NEWTON
Runcorn Town were held to a goalless draw at Newton this evening with the game a typical end of season affair after Town's chances of winning the league went on Saturday.

Despite the pitch passing an inspection this afternoon, the it was still very wet and boggy in places with the surface not helping both teams. Newton had the better possession of the opening half with Danny Dalton and Robbie Moore outstanding at the back, but it was Town who created the more clear cut chances with Ian Robinson and Joe Davies heading wide when well placed and Kyle Hamid forcing a good save from a free kick.

The second half saw much of the same with Hamid delivering another dangerous free kick that went right across goal and Steven Latham shooting just wide with Newton looking dangerous on the counter attack but unable to deliver a final telling ball. The closest either side came was when Hamid hit a low drive from the edge of the box that came back off the post.

  • In tonight's other West Cheshire League One game, New Brighton won 8-0 against Blacon Youth Club Reserves, the fourth such scoreline in the league this season.
