West Kirby retained the West Cheshire Division One title after a thrilling 3-2 win over Runcorn Town at Marine Park on Saturday put them in an unassailable lead at the top of the league.
Matty Cass put West Kirby ahead early on from the penalty spot after handball by Matty Jones, with Will Dolan equalising after 10 minutes with a penalty of his own after Ian Robinson was pushed in the back in the box.
Robinson put Town ahead with the goal of the game after 28 minutes when he volleyed the ball from the right corner of the box into the far corner, with Town going in 2-1 up at the break.
West Kirby equalised after just four minutes of the second half when a cross from the right was headed in to the bottom corner by Paul Casey. And with 15 minutes to go, West Kirby got their winner when a corner from Cass from the right was not cleared and found its way into the net.
Despite six minutes of stoppage time Town could not find their way past for a third goal, with West Kirby awarded the league championship trophy immediately after after the final whistle.
Meanwhile in Division Three Town Reserves continued their good recent form with a 4-0 win over Fairfield Athletic Reserves at Pavilions. Danny Cummins, Pete Murphy, Craig Beech and Dave Jolley were on target in the one sided match which could have ended in a rout but for some poor finishing.
