TOWN CLOSE GAP ON LEADERS
Runcorn Town closed the gap on the top two in West Cheshire One after a 4-1 win at New Brighton this evening.

Town entered the game with a poor record at Harrison Park in recent years, but with a strong wind behind their backs, dominated the first half and could have gone in at the break five goals clear.

Instead they settled for two with Simon Burton opening the scoring after getting on the end of an Ian Robinson cross from the left after 20 minutes. Two minutes before half time it was 2-0 with Ste Latham putting Danny Dalton clear on the right with the full back unselfishly squaring to James McShane for his 27th of the season.

The second half saw New Brighton come into it more, but a break in the 65th minute saw Town extend the lead. Latham again put Dalton clear on the right with Burton turning in a low cross to the back post for his 14th of the season. Latham again turned provider when putting Michael Boyle clear on the left, with the substitute cutting inside and beating the keeper at his near post.

New Brighton pulled one back when a great touch from Alan Bull took him clear of the defence, with the forward unleashing a powerful shot that Karl Wills got a hand to but looped up into the net.
