SEMI FINAL JOY FOR BOTH TOWN TEAMS Two superb performances from Runcorn Town saw both the first and reserve team successfully make the Finals of the Pyke Cup and West Cheshire Shield.
The first team won 2-1 at Poulton Vics in the Pyke Cup Semi Final. Danny Cummins, making his first senior appearance since September 06, put Town ahead with a rocket of a header from 6yds after good work by James McShane. Vics equalised with five minutes of the half to go from the penalty spot with Kevin Thompson converting. Ste Lathom grabbed what proved to be the winner with seven minutes remaining with a shot at the back post from a deep cross, with Reece Conlan clearing off the line deep into stoppage time to give Town the win. A much similar story occurred at Mossley Hill Athletic, where Town Reserves progressed to the final of the Shield with another 2-1 win. John Coady put Town ahead with a superb free kick from 30-yards out that went in off the underside of the bar after 28 minutes, with Athletic equalising ten minutes later when Simon Ellison converted from close range. Town went ahead 45 seconds into the second half with Anto Ellison slotting the ball through the keepers legs after a long clearance from the back. Athletic piled on the pressure to find a second goal but were thwarted by Town keeper Jake Garner, who put in a man-of-the-match display to keep Town ahead. Click here for first team report.
