TOWN WIN IN FOG AT WILLASTON Runcorn Town made it six wins in seven games after a 3-0 win at Willaston kept the pressure on West Kirby at the top of West Cheshire Two.After wasting several good chances, Town went ahead just after the half hour when Ryan Wade headed in Martin Welsh's corner at the near post for his second goal in two games. With thick fog coming down and lifting in regular intervals, it was hard for both teams to create many attacking opportunities, with Town's defence of Robbie Moore and Mike Duffy mopping up everything that the home side could muster. It took until eight minutes from time for the killer second goal to arrive with Wade bamboozling the defence with a run on the left. The winger saw his shot hit the right hand post with the ball falling nicely for Phil Stancombe who scored from close range. There was still time for Town to add a third with Mark Horrigan scoring his first goal for the club. Franny McIntosh played a short corner to him on the left with the full back unleashing a shot from the corner of the box that went in via the left hand post. Further good news came later when results filtered through. Although West Kirby's 4-0 win at Halton keeps them two points clear at the top, Heswall Reserves could only manage a 1-1 draw at Ashville Reserves, with Capenhurst Villa also drawing 1-1 at home to struggling FC Pensby. Runcorn Town Reserves' clash at Third Division leaders Manor Athletic was called off late on as a result of the thick fog on the Wirral. This was one of five games postponed, with a further three abandoned. Click here for match report Posted at 19:44 on Saturday 3rd February 2007 - Viewed 265 times |
