Runcorn Town moved into the promotion positions after a hard fought 2-0 win at Maghull Reserves. Town were nowhere near their best in the first half although they still created several chances through George Donnelly and Stevie Dee which were saved.
The second half was more end to end with Dave Parkinson saving well from two fierce Maghull shots, and Ryan Wade twice going close. Ian McAuley stopped a certain Maghull goal after 73 minutes with an excellent last ditch challenge in the box, and two minutes later, Donnelly put Town ahead after he turned in the box following a mazy run by Wade.
The second goal arrived four minutes later when Donnelly headed McAuley's ball into the path of Wade, who ran on and scored with a rasping shot via the underside of the bar from the most acute angle.
Meanwhile Runcorn Town Reserves moved back up to third place following a 2-0 win against Shaftesbury at Pavilions. Darren Moore put Town ahead with a 60-yard (?) special for his fifth of the season, and Ged Bushell's netted his seventh of the season to double the lead.
Full reports on both games will follow later today.
