| | Town Finish League Season With Wins | Tuesday 6th May 2008, 00:00 | Runcorn Town and Runcorn Town Reserves both rounded off their West Cheshire League season with wins on Saturday, with both teams finishing off terrific seasons in third place in their leagues.
Town travelled to Upton A.A. and returned with all three points in a comfortable 3-1 victory. Kyle Hamid put Town ahead from the spot midway through the first half, with second half goals from Craig Dewhurst and Joe Davies ensuring victory. Upton grabbed an 87th minute consolation goal through Olly Robinson.
Meanwhile the reserves went behind to an early Steve Owen goal in their home clash with Mersey Royal before Ged Bushell and Craig Beech put Town ahead. Beech added his second and Dave Jolley made it four before Nathan Jones converted a controversial penalty to make it 4-2. | | West Kirby Hangover Continues | Thursday 1st May 2008, 10:05 | Runcorn Town's hangover from Saturday's defeat at West Kirby continued last night with a 2-1 home loss to Poulton Vics.
Starting with just eleven fit and available players, Town's chances were hindered after just eight minutes when Simon Burton limped off after a recurrence of the ankle injury he picked up on Saturday.
Two minutes later Vics were ahead when Tommy Baker headed in at the back post from a short corner, and in the 19th minute Kevin Bimson doubled the lead with an easy tap in after good work on the right. James McShane hit the bar with a lob over the keeper, but Vics had a chance to increase their lead two minutes from half time with keeper Karl Wills lucky to stay on the field after bringing down Bimson in the box. Wills then made amends by saving his penalty and the resultant follow up shot.
Kyle Hamid failed to appear in the second half after picking up an injury towards the end of the first, but Town's nine men showed great character with James McShane unlucky on a few occassions to be given offside when going through. McShane eventually did beat the offside trap and latched onto a great ball from Danny Cummins to lob the keeper from the edge of the box for his 30th goal of the season.
With Town pushing up looking for the equaliser, Vics could have increased their lead on the counter but for some great defending, particularly by Paul Illidge on the left. However the two man disadvantage proved too much with Vics completing the double over Town. | | Confirmation of Shield Final for Town Reserves | Wednesday 30th April 2008, 11:05 | The West Cheshire Shield Final between Richmond Raith Rovers and Town Reserves, postponed on Monday evening due to a waterlogged pitch, has been hastily rearranged - It will now be played on Bank-Holiday Monday morning ( 5th May ) with an 11.00am kick off at Ashville FC.
| | Town Held At Newton | Monday 28th April 2008, 23:01 | Runcorn Town were held to a goalless draw at Newton this evening with the game a typical end of season affair after Town's chances of winning the league went on Saturday.
Despite the pitch passing an inspection this afternoon, the it was still very wet and boggy in places with the surface not helping both teams. Newton had the better possession of the opening half with Danny Dalton and Robbie Moore outstanding at the back, but it was Town who created the more clear cut chances with Ian Robinson and Joe Davies heading wide when well placed and Kyle Hamid forcing a good save from a free kick.
The second half saw much of the same with Hamid delivering another dangerous free kick that went right across goal and Steven Latham shooting just wide with Newton looking dangerous on the counter attack but unable to deliver a final telling ball. The closest either side came was when Hamid hit a low drive from the edge of the box that came back off the post.
In tonight's other West Cheshire League One game, New Brighton won 8-0 against Blacon Youth Club Reserves, the fourth such scoreline in the league this season. | | |
